Textile designer Melissa Kelman was inspired by her love of pattern, florals, and color when she created her own wedding invitations. Every piece featured a stamped image of her own hand painted calligraphy – genius! And no two were identical.
The wedding invitations were originally hand painted in gouache and watercolor. I scanned the artwork in and created the layout digitally. For our day-of elements, I hand carved some stamps and stamped each menu with colorful floral motifs. Our favors were small Muji notebooks, stamped with a hand carved pretzel stamp. The pretzel symbolized New York City and Philadelphia: the two cities we lived in together. The envelopes were all hand addresses by me.
The Save the Date cards were each hand painted on kraft card stock with blue ink and then dotted with white ink. Her custom calligraphy was then stamped on top.
I love the unique colour palette that she uses in her invitations. It is not easy to pull off a black invite but she does it flawlessly by incorporating coloured flowers and leaves to brighten up the whole look.
We love making new friends!
